St. James' Oratory Celebrates the Traditional "Posadas"
The posadas re-enact Mary and Joseph's cold and difficult journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of shelter; in Spanish, the word means "lodging." About 200 children took part in this traditional celebration, divided into two groups: those looking for lodging, and those who did not accept the Holy Family of Nazareth. The "pilgrims" sang songs asking for shelter, and the hosts sang a reply, finally opening the doors to the guests, for a family hears that Mary is bearing the Son of God, and give them a place where the Son of God is born. The party ended with Christmas songs and a few piñatas.
